How do you know if your propane tank is empty?

Attach a heat-sensitive sensor to the side of the tank. Pour hot water over the sensor. A coloured dial will indicate the amount of propane in the tank.

Also, you can look at the metal collar on the top of the cylinder. Letters and numbers are engraved into the metal. Find the letters "TW" followed by a number. This is the weight of the empty cylinder. A propane cylinder weighs about 18 to 20 pounds. Place the cylinder on a scale and if it is heavier than the TW number, the difference is the weight of the propane remaining in the cylinder.

How to store your propane tank safely during the winter months

It is important not to store your propane cylinder in an enclosed area such as a basement or garage in the winter. You can store your tank vertically outside, out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
