What are the best tools to have for woodworking?
Whether you're a home improvement business, a wood fabricator or a professional woodworking company, there's nothing like quality tools to get the job done. But which tool should you start with? We've chosen the essential tools you need to get the job done, no matter how big or small.
JSR Industrial Supplies offers a wide range of power tools and woodworking machinery to make woodworking easier and more enjoyable. You'll also find many well-known brands in store: Milwaukee Tool, Powermatic, Gray Tools and more!
POWER TOOLS
Circular saw
The circular saw is a corded or cordless power tool that's essential to your woodworking shop. It consists of a round or circular blade full of sharp teeth that rip through wood. Although often considered more suited to carpentry than professional woodworking, the circular saw is capable of cutting clean, straight lines.
There are three types of circular saw blade:
- Slitting blades: They cut material lengthwise, lengthwise or across the grain.
- Cross-cut blades: for sawing across the grain.
- Combination blades: Designed for ripping and crosscutting.
Compound miter saws
Compound miter saws outperform conventional circular saws. They use the same types of blades, such as rip, crosscut and combination saw blades, as those used with circular saws. However, they are attached to an arm or rail. It's important to use a high-quality crosscut saw blade for a miter saw.
These electric tools are extremely versatile. They have largely replaced the traditional miter box and backsaw in many workshops. Electric miter saws enable much more precise cuts for mitering, beveling and compound angles. They can be easily set to standard angles such as 22 ½, 45 and 90 degrees, but can also be adjusted to any angle in between. This includes left- and right-hand cuts.
Orbital sander / sandblaster
If you have to choose just one power tool for wood finishing, opt for an orbital sander. These fast-acting machines eliminate the disadvantages of manual sanding and make it much faster. Orbital sanders differ from linear tools such as belt sanders. They use sandpaper pads that rotate in a circular or orbital pattern.
Conventional orbital sanders use a circular abrasive sandpaper disc that rotates in a circle. Although they remove material quickly, they tend to leave swirl marks that are difficult to remove. A better choice is a random orbital sander. Instead of rotating in a circle, it performs random oscillating movements, leaving the wood surface as smooth as silk, without any marks.
STATIONARY WOODWORKING MACHINERY / EQUIPMENT
Table Saws
In addition to power tools, you need high-quality woodworking equipment. The table saw is one of them. Table saws enable you to make cuts that are difficult to achieve with other types of saw. They are designed like inverted circular saws, with the blade exposed under the saw table or work surface. Blade depth and angles are easily adjusted for greater precision.
The model most often used in commercial workshops is the stationary table saw. Designed to stay in place, their motors are enclosed in a lower cabinet, and the blade is driven by a system of belts and pulleys. It's perfect for everything from sawing wood to cutting panels.
Band saw
A band saw is a machine tool used for woodworking. It is equipped with a closed steel band that rotates continuously on itself. This machine is a must for any woodworking company wishing to process large volumes of wood.
Indispensable in cabinetmaking and joinery, the band saw is used for sawing or edging a workpiece. It can also be used to condition a workpiece before it goes to the router. In addition, the bandsaw can be used to evacuate off-cuts into logs, split boards and more.
Finally, in addition to edging, it's important to know that the saw's steel band can also be used to edge wood planks to perfection.
Planers
If you're a manufacturer specializing in cabinets, doors or furniture, it's important that the thickness of each board is uniform. Planers are used to smooth rough lumber to a precise thickness. If you need thin material for a small project, a planer is the perfect tool for the job. Stationary planers
are generally used in professional woodworking shops.
